Kitchens are the heart of the home and it is important to have a beautiful and comfortable place to meet and greet as well as cook and serve meals. Exercise common sense: if you have a ring set with a softer gem variety or an included stone, take it off before strenuous exercise. Even the hardest gem of them all, diamond, can shatter in two with a single well-placed blow. Never remove rings by pulling on the stone: that habit may result in a loose, then lost, gem.
2. Most importantly, store each piece of gemstone jewelry separately so that harder stones don't scratch softer ones. Almost every gemstone is much harder than the metal it is set in. Gems can scratch the finish on your gold, silver or platinum if you throw your jewelry in a heap in a drawer or jewelry box.
3. Rings in particular tend to collect dust and soap behind the gem, particularly if you wear them all the time. You need to clean them regularly to let the light in so your gems can shine. To clean transparent crystalline gemstones, simply soak them in water with a touch of gentle dish soap. Use a bowl of water rather than the sink to eliminate the risk of anything going down the drain. If necessary, use a soft toothbrush to scrub behind the stone. Rinse the soap off and pat dry with a lint-free cloth (you want to make sure threads won't catch on the prongs) For diamond, ruby or sapphire, a touch of ammonia in the rinse water won't hurt a bit and can add extra sparkle (for platinum and gold only, not silver!). Think twice before putting gems in an ultrasonic cleaner. Diamonds and rubies and sapphires will be fine but many other gems many not be, in particular emerald, opal, pearls, peridot: when in doubt, leave it out.
4. Organic gems like pearls, coral, and amber should only be wiped clean with moist cloth. Due to their organic nature, these gems are both soft and porous. Be careful about chemicals in hairspray, cosmetics, or perfume: they can, over time, damage pearls in particular. Opals also require special care. Never use an ultrasonic, never use ammonia, and avoid heat and strong light.
5. Opaque gemstones like lapis lazuli, turquoise, malachite, require special care because they are rocks, not crystals of a single mineral like transparent gems. There gem materials should just be wiped clean gently with a moist cloth. These gemstones can be porous and may absorb chemicals, even soap, and they may build up inside the stone and discolor it. Never use and ultrasonic cleaner and never use ammonia or any chemical solution.

The very first thing to know is that there are very few perfect bodies out there. Everyone has something they are trying to deal with. Here are a few tips. One-Piece or Two-Piece Swimsuit? Some of the most beautiful, sexiest women seen on the beach wear one-piece swimsuits. They do not reveal it ALL, just enough to keep things interesting. Some one piece swimwear have cut-out sides, others do the deep plunge to reveal some cleavage or hike it up at the hip to accentuate the leg. The swimsuit rule here is to show off your best assets and conceal the others. Always remember that you are aiming for a balanced silhouette. Swimsuit For Swimming If you're into swimming, definitely get a one-piece. Find one that doesn't cut into the shoulders, has comfortable, stretchy fabric and doesn't creep up the backside. Forget bikini strings. You just don't want anything to come undone while you're doing laps or snorkeling off a crowded beach. Small On Top If you're small on top, you may want to try the better swimsuits from Brazil, such as ViX, or Salinas. These designers have adjusted their swimsuit patterns to the fit American market, however, they still run on the small side. Look for bikini tops with a touch of padding, or an under wire, demi-bra style that makes the most of a beautiful, dainty, bust line. Try to find a swimsuit top with adjustable straps at shoulders and around back so that you can tighten and adjust things, to help fill out the top line. You are very lucky that you have the body to wear those cute, ruffled, swimsuit tops that are so hot right now, so go for it. And as for bandeau bikini tops, only you can wear those well. You can also show off in those tiny, string bikini tri-tops that the big busted girls only dream about. Avoid tops with too much fabric or have a poor fit. Opt for separates, where you can choose your top and bottom separately. Big On TopHalter-top bikinis can be a good choice by offering support, while providing some sexy cleavage too. Look for swimwear styles that have wide bands around the midriff and can be tied in back and around the neck. This style will give you some lift and will allow you to make adjustments for a personal fit. You may need some extra support; underwire swimsuit tops can also work well, but only if they fit perfectly. Look for one-piece swimsuits with some structure in the bust, such as soft foam cups or at least, a shelf bra. Straight cut bust styles such as a classic tank swimsuit can look clean and sporty. Wide shoulder straps will also be much more comfortable than thin, spaghetti straps. Avoid strapless bandeau tops and those tiny, tri-tops that offer minimal coverage. Again, make sure to get a suit where you can order the top and bottom sizes separately. Short Legs or Torso Play up your figure by finding a bathing suit that is cut high on the thigh. This will make your leg look much longer. If you have curvy hips, then all the better. This cut will accentuate your smaller waist and give you a flirty look. You've probably already heard that vertical stripes can visually lengthen the body. Well, here's another trick. Wear a solid bottom bikini with a printed, or embellished top. This will draw the eye upward and give you a longer look. A solid, one-piece bathing suit with a plunging neckline creates a continual, long appearance and is absolutely, drop dead sexy to boot! Avoid boy shorts and skirted bikinis as they draw the eye downward and can make you look shorter. Long Body Shape Clothes drape beautifully on you and your legs go on and on. But, you do need to make sure that you do not look like a bean pole at the beach in your swimsuit. You can go wild with the embellishments at the hips and bust line. Ruching, rings, jewels, ties and bows are all good things for you. Try horizontal, or diagonal stripes and nappy fabrics, such as stretch terry and velvet. Boy shorts are just the thing for your slim hips. Oh, and those cute, ruffled bikini skirts and cover-ups? They're made just for you! If you want a one-piece swimsuit, try one of the latest, cut-out suits. It will break up your long torso, just like a bikini does. Avoid up and down stripes, high necklines and dark, solid colors. No Waist No problem. It's not that you don't have a waistline, it's that you hips are slim. If you don't have many curves, create some by wearing one-piece suit with a high-on-the-thigh cut. A belted waistline on a one-piece suit will give the appearance of a whittled middle. So will a draped, surplice detail that pinches in at the waist, or a curvy seam line that runs down each side of the torso. Bikinis are good for you. Add some illusion at the hips with rings, ruffles, folds, ruching and bows. Rings on a bikini bottom will flatter a figure with no waist. If you're small on top, go for a strapless bandeau top. Pick out for a dark, solid bottom and a wildly printed or embellished top. Avoid solid-colored or horizontal striped one-pieces. Wide Shoulders Balance is the key word here. You will want to play up the bottom of your torso and minimize the top. Wear bikini bottoms that have lots of color and print and also sport accents at the hips such as ties, belts, folds and sashes. The new, moderate cut bottom was made for you. Also, wide shoulder straps and square necklines can make you look fabulous. Avoid the "V" silhouette by staying away from those plunging neck lines or teeny, tiny bikini bottoms. Plus Size Figure Show a little skin in just the right places and you will look seductively svelte and super sexy! Look for one-piece swimsuits with lace or mesh inserts at the waistline. A strategically placed cut-out, or a deep V neckline, can really change your visual image. Lengthen your thigh with an adjustable gathers at the hip. A short or long sarong can give you a little confidence and still look totally glamorous.Try some of those great, color-block swimsuits that have a different color panel that curves along the waistline, giving a slimming illusion. Dark, cool colors are always good and so are swirling, or V patterns. Try a swimsuit with dark, solid panels down each side of the torso and a floral printed middle. Avoid too much fabric. Modesty is certainly OK, but too much coverage is not necessarily a better option. Also, stay away from white, as well as bright, neon fabrics and those nappy textiles. Too Much Tummy If you are self conscious about your tummy try one of those fabulous, tummy, control panel, swimsuits: they really work wonders. If you're going for a two-piece swimsuit, then checkout the, "meet-and-greet," tankinis that are on still the fashion scene today. They cover just enough, but you still have the freedom and hip factor of a bikini. A one-piece with some close draping around the waist or hips can also help to conceal. Avoid itsy bitsy bikinis and blah, solid colored, one-pieces. Big On Bottom The newest, mini-skirted bikinis are too cute and made just for you! Don't go for a super frilly one, though. Instead, pick a smooth, skimming skirt that is short and sweet, but covers what it needs to. A ruffled or highly decorated top is OK though. The details will draw attention to your top half. You could also go for a moderate, folded bottom bikini that has a 2 inch side...very chic! Make that a solid bottom and print top for a super effect. Try a maillot one piece. Something with wide straps, or a strong horizontal neckline, will balance out your silhouette. Remember, playing up your top side will de-emphasize your bottom side. Avoid boy shorts, too skimpy bottoms, or lots of ruffles and details at the hips. Pregnant Do you know how beautiful you are right now? Enjoy your day in the sun! Some moms-to-be choose to go with a regular bikini because they don't have to worry about the middle part getting in the way. However, as the day draws closer, you will probably want a one-piece. Pick one that you can let out and adjust as your tummy and hips expand. You will probably want some support in the bust as well. The Perfect Body If you've got it go for it! Let's face it; you work hard to keep your body in perfect shape. A tiny, designer bikini looks good on so few people, you should consider it your solemn duty to beautify the beach and make a few heads turn. You Get What You Pay ForBy all means, avoid buying a cheaply made swimsuit, or bikini from one of those mass marketed, chain stores, or fly-by-night web hawkers. They may look like a bargain in the short run, but you won't get the fit and quality that you expect and it won't last nearly as long. It takes a lot of time and expertise to make a great swimsuit, not to mention excellent materials and workmanship, so you may pay a little more up front. However, you will be better off with one, or two, higher quality swimsuits that are sympathetic to your body type and will endure through several seasons. Spend the extra money...you and your body will be glad that you did. Find It BEFORE You Go Find your suit BEFORE you go on vacation. Prices at resorts can be astronomical and you don't want to spend all of your time looking for a suit that fits, especially in a foreign country that considers a size 3 "average." History of Charm Bracelets

The custom of wearing charm bracelets dates back thousands of years, and though the materials and designs on them have changed, the concept itself has never gone out of style.
This form of jewelry initially had a religous function, and dates back to the prehistoric era. According to Elizabeth Florence, president of the Jewelry Information Center, "The first charm bracelets were probably worn by the Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians and Hittites from 500 to 400 B.C. Those charms were made of lapis lazuli, rock crystal and other gems and were inscribed with small designs, such as figures of gods, man and animals. They were immediately associated with special powers."
As time passed, charms lost their protective spiritual functions and became fashion jewelry. The 1890's saw a renaissance of charms, especially in Victorian England, where elaborate and intricate jewelry was in vogue. Queen Victoria helped popularize the trend by wearing a charm bracelet of small lockets holding family portraits.
WW II caused another revival of charm bracelets in America in the 1940's and 1950's, as soldiers stationed abroad picked up charms as souvenirs in the European cities they visited and brought them home for wives and girlfriends. The fashion trend continued well into peacetime.
Charms still remain a popular jewelry item, as personalized keepsakes in an increasingly mass-produced jewelry market. Popular themes include horoscope signs, birthstone charms, travel souvenirs, and family keepsakes. Many women start collecting charms when they are children, and the charm bracelet grows along with them, reflecting hobbies and personal experience. A charm bracelet can hold a small replica of a graduation cap, wedding bells, or lockets with children's photos.
Charms are also a popular gift because of their affordable price. An intricate silver charm can be obtained for less than ten dollars, though it is possible to spend hundreds of dollars on a charm made of 18K and set with gems.
Italian charms, a genre in and of themselves, do not dangle from a chain like traditional charms. Instead, they are soldered onto flat links which snap onto an extensible bracelet. They are embellished with letters, symbols, pictures or stones, or have enamel pictures painted on them. Charms can be snapped on and off these modular bracelets to create new configurations to match different moods and outfits. They are traditionally made of stainless steel or 18k gold. Italian charms are of the same standard size and the resulting bracelet can be customized to fit every wrist; a small size holds 17 or less links, a medium 18, and a large 19 or more.
There are different companies which produce Italian charms, but all brands can be interchanged on the same bracelet. The basic "starter" bracelet of blank links costs approximately five dollars, and the charms cost fifteen dollars and up. China also manufactures Italian charms, and while these are popular (and, as with most Chinese goods, very competitively priced), some consumers report occasional oddities such as reversed images and poor fit.

1. Wearing the Wrong Colors
To look your best wear clothing colors that will complement your skin. Wearing the wrong colors will make your skin appear sallow and lines and wrinkles will be more evident. The right colors will make you look more vibrant and healthy.
2. Wearing too much makeup
Too much makeup will make lines appear deeper and will create a harsh look. Keep makeup light for day and a little darker for evening. See a professional if you are unsure of makeup application techniques.
3. Wearing Clothes that are too small
Wearing clothes that fit too tightly will make you appear larger. Wearing clothes that do not suit your body type will make you appear larger. Buy clothes that suit your body type - not someone else's.
4. Chipped nail polish
The idea of nail polish is to make your nails appear nicer. Chipped polish just brings attention to poor grooming.
5. An old-fashioned hairstyle or messy hair

Look Fashionable At The Beach!

It's that time of year when we pack up our bags and head to the beach for the day to enjoy those warm sunrays and the refreshing sound of the lapping water.
So what constitutes a good beach wardrobe. Well there are certain essentials that none of us forget. On goes the swimsuit and bathing suit cover, flip flops on our feet. Beach bag has been packed with the essentials ? sunglasses, floppy hat, towel and a good book. Great ? got the basics covered but what about the rest.
So if we are so prepared for a day at the beach, why is it by the time we get home we look pretty worn. Here are some helpful tips to make your day at the beach fun and keep you looking fashion fresh all day and all the way home.
First before you leave home, if you've got long hair pull it into a high pony tail or fun knot. Use some funky hair accessories that will stay in place when you're swimming. Try a fun colored bobble or some firm fastening clips in bright summer colors. If you pull your hair up your neck will stay cool and you'll look fresh all day with your neat hairdo.
Second slather yourself in sunscreen before leaving the house, then toss the sunscreen in your bag so you can reapply after a swim or every few hours. A sunburn is not only unhealthy and painful, it's unattractive, so don't let yourself turn into the lobster of the day. Your sunscreen should be a SPF of 15. It doesn't hurt to use a strong SPF on your face or your entire body if you burn easily.
Your beach bag should be large enough to hold your supplies for the day. Why not get something fun and fashionable to keep you looking fashion fresh. Make sure you've got all the daily essentials in your bag ? sunglasses, sunscreen, a good book, a floppy hat, some lip gloss, and any other makeup touch ups you'll want. If you plan to wear eye makeup make sure it's waterproof. Stay away from heavy foundations. If you must apply something use a bronzer moisturizer. It's also a good idea to bring lip balm with an SPF15 to protect your lips. It never hurts to put some moisturizer in the bag. Include a snack and plenty of fluids. It's important not to get dehydrated.
Okay great we've got the basics covered now what about the wardrobe basics? If you're planning to wear a swimsuit it's usually easiest to put it on at home, that way you're not chasing down change rooms. So great ? first on goes the swimsuit. Now what to wear for a cover? Well you've got plenty of choices. A tank top and shorts, tank and skort, or a nice light cotton dress all work well over top. Choose something that's easy to put on and take off, and choose fabrics that breathe to keep you cool. I also suggest including a long sleeved cotton blouse just incase you start to burn you can protect your shoulders and arms.
If you're planning on heading out later in the day without returning home you might want to toss a pair of jeans or long skirt into your bag. If your outing is going to extend into the evening you'll want to include a sweater for the cooler evening air. If you're worried about your evening wear getting sandy or wet at the beach, then place them in a separate bag and leave them in the trunk of your car. That way you are guaranteed they'll remain fresh.
My favorite beach look is this. And what's perfect is it keeps me looking fashion fresh throughout the day and takes me right into the evening. First I like a swimsuit that's got lots of support and is bright and cheerful. I throw a fitted tank on top and throw on a loose flouncy long skirt. The long skirt serves me through the evening and also works great to cover up if I'm starting to burn. I choose a lightweight material in a darker color with a pattern that accents the colors in my swimsuit. Flip flops are my footwear. Depending on where I'm heading after the beach I choose either a basic pair or one of my funky pair with rhinestones or crystals. Easy to walk in, feet breath, and terrific for an evening out. I keep a fitted light weight sweater in my car, and take a long sleeved cotton blouse down to the beach. I usually choose a long sleeved and long length blouse because it's versatile. I can knot it to create a short blouse, wear it long as a beach cover, and put it on if I start to burn on my upper body. I usually choose white or a soft pastel depending on my other colors. I like white because it's cool to wear and refreshing to look at. Every year I buy a fun new beach tote that's big enough for the beach but not too big as to take it with me for an evening out. I like a fun bag that's full of character.
Since I always feel naked without my jewelry I wear fashion jewelry to the beach. That way should I loose something I won't be out a lot of money and I won't feel so bad. I like to keep the earrings simple and elegant. I may or may not wear a necklace. Often I'll toss a funky wood necklace in the bag to add to the evening outfit. I like to wear a couple of fashion rings just to add the finishing touches. Now if you're fussy about tan lines you'll probably want to forgo the rings. I toss my watch in the bottom of my bag so I can put it on later.
That's it ? simple is the key. Keep your beach wardrobe choices simple but fashionable. Think ahead so you can go from beach to an evening out without hassle. Remember to always make your fashion statement!
